Salaam Baalak Trust

The Shirdi Sai Baba Temple Society, located in Faridabad, began in 1988. The purpose was to wipe out hunger among poor people and providing better health care to the poor and neglected population of the society.

In an effort to uncover the potential of young underprivileged children in the poor neighborhoods around the Temple, the founder, Mr. Saisevak Motilal Gupta established a government recognized school in 2004. Here, free classes are provided to more than 650 children, and includes uniforms, study materials and free breakfast and lunch, reflecting Gupta's view of these special children.

He believes that each of them are the future of mankind, and every child must have access to a good education, wholesome food and medical support. His next step was to include health and dental programs for all the students. To improve their living standards, they were taught basic hygienic care. To help them on a physical and emotional approach to their lives they are also taught yoga.

This approach has been so successful, he knows the number of children will increase to 2,000 very quickly. A third floor has been added to the existing school building, and the construction has begun for a new building that will be 150% larger.

   HOH's Goals

Training programs have begun to teach some of the children the trade of tailoring on domestic sewing machines, but the goal is to upgrade them to Industrial machines in the near future. Watching how the first graduation of these girls has led them to employment with a local Export shop is not only a reward for them, but true inspiration for the others.

Sports are very popular with all children, and it is clear that competitive training helps them stay focused. We want to expand the program that sends children to the Sports Stadium for participation in various sports.

Also, to expand their horizons and to give them incentives to study, the academically high achievers in each class are sent on educational trips to Ranthambore, Agra, New Delhi, and all expenses are covered.
