Nivisha Mehta's recent visit to HOH's newest project, the Blind Welfare & Rehabilitation Association in Akola was a forceful reminder of how pressing the needs are for this school which presently caters to 75 blind children, with nowhere else to go. Nivisha says "It is always an emotional experience for me when I enter the school. Tears fill my eyes when I see how little they have. I took my son Avneesh to see where they sleep and he was shocked to see their living conditions. The floors were unfinished and wet from the rains. The rusted iron beds only had a mattress and pillow with no sheets." Seeing their impoverished conditions, Avneesh aged 6 asked "Mom, should I give them all my toys?"
Home of Home is proud to support this project with a donation of over $5,000 to enable the school to increase the number of children from 75 to 100; to establish a Braille library and to provide additional teaching materials. The school has become a haven for these children who live there, allowing them to study and learn to cope with a life of physical blindness.
HOH Supporters Reach out from Atlanta
Dr. Nilima Sabharwal returned from a weekend trip to Atlanta in August where she says "The HOH seed was firmly planted!". She was invited to make a presentation about HOH to approximately 40 guests, at a MUSICAL NITE hosted by Amin Tejani, a keen supporter of HOH . The sole purpose of this event was to spread the awareness of HOH. She said "There was pin drop silence when I spoke and I felt the warm, compassionate energy." Amin Tejani was confidant that the Atlanta group will be able to fund completely an entire HOH project!
