Despite the doom and gloom of the financial markets, HOH walkers -old and new - sizzled with energy and raised a record breaking $15,000 for the 4th Annual Walkathon. The weather too was a sizzler on this sun-filled, September morning, in contrast to previous years when walkers enjoyed cool cloudy skies. The walk was held on Saturday, September 27th. It started at 8.30 in the morning for those who like an early start and continued till 1 pm to accommodate the rest. Approximately 100 walkers arrived at different times to the scenic Coyote Park, Fremont and enjoyed the natural beauty of the 6 mile trail. Booths were set up along the trail for walkers to replenish their water bottles and pick up snacks and fruit if they needed extra energy! Walkers were able to meet old and new friends and enjoy good conversations along the way. A cheerful reception greeted all who completed the walk with food offerings for every palate - scrumptious strawberry cream cake, Togo sandwiches, samosas, tandoori chicken, rice and chole (chick peas) to name a few. All were donated by HOH supporters. 3 cheers to Anoop Judge for taking the lead on organizing this year's walkathon. This year's stars included Vidya Ragachari's two elementary school kids, Arjun and Kamana who raised $1400. Washington High Schoolers, Jonny and his group raised $500 for the event. Their future goal is to hit the $1k mark. They also plan to raise money for HOH kids during Halloween, asking for donations instead of candy. Nav Grover, a committed young supporter for several years now - celebrated her birthday as a walker who raised $1k. Her goal is to start a HOH chapter in LA with friend and supporter, Shakira Singh. Special mention goes to new committee members, Iqbal, Nikki and Tara who participated in the walkathon and raised substantial funds. BABA GUPTA raised $2k after receiving matching corporate funds! The Sai Center of San Bruno donated special tee shirts for the Walkathon.
