Pingalwara Institute, Amritsar, run by a retired Colonel Mann and his wife is an embodiment of " COMPASSION and UNADULTERATED LOVE ! There is a DIVINE hypnotism that just envelopes you. ...to do SEVA (or service)." HOH has been involved with this project since 2003. Close to $10,000 has been donated over the last two years to support teacher salaries, education supplies and a computer lab.
COMPUTER LAB donated by HOH
Approximately 220 children aged from 7-15 years are benefiting from this lab. Classes are held every day lasting 45 minutes each. A Sikh orphaned girl demonstrated to Dr. Sabharwal the facets of human anatomy, using the computer. She has set her sights on becoming a doctor.
Another boy showed her the world map on the computer and was pointing out places that he would like to visit when he gets the chance. One teacher mentioned that the kids have shown much improvement in their grades and have developed a love of learning since being introduced to the computers.
A Special Event
During her recent visit to Pingalwara, Dr. Sabharwal was given the honor of distributing tricycles to handicapped students. There were a total of 20 young adults and children without limbs. They were lifted gently in the arms of able bodied helpers, and handed tricycles by Dr. Sabharwal. As she spoke to some of the recipients, she saw they had tears of joy in their eyes.
Conjoined Twins Thriving
Conjoined twins who were left to die at the Golden Temple one and a half years ago, are now doing well at Pingalwara in the care of Col. Mann's wife. They have started speaking and can look forward to a bright future. Dr. Sabharwal asks "What have we started? Can HOH always live up to what has become an expectation? Like I always say... These kids are DEPENDING ON US. We have started the chain of HOPE". With your help, Home of Hope can certainly sustain projects such as these and continue making a difference...one child at a time.
