Founder of Chilren's Home of Hope, Chennai dies:
Mrs. Lily Prabhakaran, founder of CHH Chennai, and the inspiration behind HOH, USA, died on Feb 14. Children's HOH was founded by Mrs Lily Prabhakaran in 1971 with just 10 children who had been abandoned because their parents had leprosy. It subsequently grew to become a home for 137 orphans.

Support, Mumbai:
Many people were moved by Dr. Sabharwal's report on Support following her recent visit. Approximately 40 girls now live in 2 rooms with access to a dilapidated bathroom, in conditions, which Dr. Sabharwal could only describe as "deplorable, horrific and saddening". Most of these young girls aged 15-20 years have babies, are HIV positive and/or are pregnant. They wake up at 3 am, to collect water in buckets due to water rationing. Despite their circumstances, the girls "look happy" and feel grateful for the protection they receive within the walls of Support.

At least two HOH supporters are mobilizing their efforts to see how they can help in meeting the desperate need for a permanent facility for these girls and their children.

The Kids are Reaching Out...

Amaraj Judge (13 years old) wrote: "When I visited Manovikas, I saw that the mentally handicapped children at this daycare were being taught the skills they needed to survive. I saw children learning everyday skills like putting on a sweater, which may seem like a very small task but is almost impossible for these children to master. Then, I went to another class and saw older people making incense, by rolling it between their hands. I felt sorry for them and wondered why isn't every one lucky."

Ghena Judge (9 years old) wrote: "When I visited Manovikas, I saw the kids making candles out of clay and sticks; I thought that was really cool. Then we went to another room and I saw the kids who are mentally challenged, were on the computer, learning the names of fruit."
