Puttaveerama - Mysore
Business Processing Outsourcing - Non-Voice Training Course
Home of Hope is truly proud to announce the introduction of a new vocational training program at Puttaveerama Orphanage. With the use of specialized, cutting-edge software, the deaf and mute children of Puttaveerama will be equipped for promising careers in the non-voice business-processing sector at outsourcing companies, an emerging force in the local economy. Mr. Pawan is a skilled instructor in charge of this training program covering basic math, accounting, computing, banking and project reporting. When this orphanage began in the 1990's, its devoted founder (also named Puttaveerama) hoped the deaf and mute children would be able to earn their future sustenance by learning the art of "pattal-making" (leaves sown together and used as disposable plates/bowls and sold for pennies). Ongoing donations from HOH have, amongst other things, allowed for the set up of a computer laboratory (with 10 computers), catapulting this little orphanage to an altogether different realm and giving a brighter vision for the future of these children. At the inauguration ceremony for this new training program, Dr Asha, head of the All- India Institute of Speech and Hearing Department of Audiology, said she was so inspired by the achievements of this orphanage that she would be volunteering her services and those of her trainees, to evaluate the hearing potential among these children and train them to speak. Home of Hope continues to look to you the donors to allow these miracles to happen.
Letter from Nina Sawhney , High Schooler - My Visit to Manovikas, Delhi
Hey Nilima Aunty,
I visited the Manovikas Charitable Society with my father while I was in India over winter break. It was such a great experience for me. I was especially impressed with all the hard work put in by the staff including Alok and Vikram. I saw how much progress the speech therapy
program had made with the children at Manovikas. Vikram pointed me to the room where children who couldn't even speak had learned to sing.
He said something like, "Why don't you open the door to our most accomplished program here?" I, expecting to find a spacious room where children could work on their speech therapy, opened the door to a tiny
bathroom. I was shocked to see a room where two people and a computer could barely fit, and amazed at how much progress could be made even without necessary facilities. Manovikas has accomplished many more
things, but they certainly could use even more help to get better and more facilities to help more disadvantaged people.
I brought back some of the greeting cards and agarbatis that the children at the day care make with their own hands to sell and make
some money. I will be selling them at my school to raise some more money for Manovikas. I finally got to see the accomplishments of Home of Hope with my own eyes.
Making a difference….. one child at a time
