Nilima's Sabharwal has come back from India feeling more energized than ever about the work of Home of Hope "I got back after an amazing trip, visiting all our 1100 HOH children ! There is so much to share. I bring back with me memories of shining faces with bright eyes, eyes that are searching, thirsty for knowledge! Irrespective of whether a child is deaf or mute or physically/mentally challanged, this HOH child wants to learn. How do we quench their thirst? How do we sustain these HOH children? The answer lies in all of you. Please support our programs and have faith in us so that we continue the mission of HOH."

Udyan Ghar Celebrates Founder's Day
HOH received a prestigious award from the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dixit at the 11th Founder's Day celebration for Udyan Ghar held on 6th February in recognition of the success of the mental health program supported by HOH.

Dr. Sabharwal observed a simple and effective organizational structure in place at Udyan Ghar, ensuring answerability from the ground level up, including mentor sisters keeping an activity log book on each of the 48 resident girls, reporting to two Caretakers at each of the 10 homes run by Udyan Ghar, in turn reporting to the Mentor Mother. Each home employs a counsellor, who screens every child. Their work is supported by a psychiatrist and two social workers.

Success stories abound through the work at Udyan Ghar. Dr. Sabharwal interviewed Leela, who had run away from an abusive step mother to live a life under flyovers until she was rescued by Udyan Ghar. Two years ago she could not read or write. Today, she is studying in 5th grade and showing great promise!

Swathi, another girl with a horrific background of suffering and poverty, has done extremely well under Udyan Ghar's care and serves as a mentor sister to other resident girls. She aspires to go into Hotel Management and become a world-class chef!
