Atmashree Educational Association - Bangalore
Atmashree Educational Association, Bangalore provides education for more than 500 poor children of pre-school to high school ages for minimal fees. While it receives some financial aid from the State Government, this proves to be insufficient to cover expenses. In November 2001, Home of Hope made an initial donation of $2,900, which was utilized for the purchase of computers, science lab equipment, embroidery, sewing machines and learning aids for mentally handicapped children. HOH"s goal was to make a big impact on improving the academic and vocational training needs of the institute.

Impressed by the utilization of these funds and dedication of the school workers, HOH continued its support in subsequent years by contributing toward teachers' salaries. "After getting HOH funds, I have observed dramatic changes in teaching core subjects. Teachers have been encouraged with the financial aid of HOH. It had boosted the teachers' morale to teach effectively." says RENUKA DEVI, headmistress and an 8 year veteran of this institute. She notes improvements in the availability of teaching equipment, "I would struggle to explain the existence of microbes without having use of a microscope. But now in our lab we have a microscope, over- head projector and specimens. I feel happy to teach Biology".

A New Computer Lab
In 2005 Home Of Hope received a special grant of $10,000 for starting a computer lab in memory of Dr Abid M Husain. Approximately half of this was spent on the purchase of 6 computers and the remainder salaries for the computer staff and maintenance, allowing for a good computer-training program to be implemented.

NAMRATHA, a10th grader at Atmashree, comes from a poor family with a total income of less than $200 per year. She is thrilled about the computer training: "I am very grateful to HOH. Previously I had only heard about computers. But the dream to learn about a computer and work on it came true for me now!"

Nagaraju, is a 10th grader whose family income is approximately $400 per annum. She expressed her appreciation to HOH in this way: "When I joined this school the facilities in the school were very less. But when the school started getting the helping hand from HOH it improved a lot."

Positive Feedback
H.K.LATHA, a language instructor eloquently sums up the changes she has seen at Atmashree: "Before getting HOH aid our school was just like a sprouted seed. But now it has become a green healthy sapling. Since HOH has provided nutrition. Even though it is a healthy sapling now, still it has to develop to become a big tree and has to provide shelter for lots of students." Clearly, the journey has not ended. "Our institution has to grow in all aspects like library, lab, computer lab, sports section". With your support HOH can continue to positively impact Atmashree and its children.
