Nilima Returns from India - Highlights of Visit (Part 2)
Akola - School for the Blind - Changing Reality
If you come across a child who is an orphan, poor, abandoned and BLIND would this reality just seem a little too harsh to bear? What if you had the option of changing this reality? At Akola, this reality is being changed for about 100 blind orphans. Dr. Nilima Sabharwal and her 2 children took the overnight train from Mumbai to Akola arriving at 5 a.m. Upon arrival they were greeted with the clapping and singing of blind children "with indescribable energy, who oozed MOTIVATION and had a PASSION to learn". The visitors to this orphanage moved to tears and were speechless in the presence of these children. The principal gave a powerful welcome speech and Dr. Sabharwal had to pinch herself as she realized that he was blind too. The classrooms and the library remain limited in their resources. Despite this, the children have many accomplishments to boast about! They have won State championships in chess and sports and can look forward to a life and future filled with hope.

Chennai - Children's Home of Hope
SHASHIMA a polio victim came to the CHH about 10 years ago as an abandoned orphan. Today she is the kindergarten teacher at CHH, and doing a 3-year correspondence course to get her BA degree. Shashima observed there had been marked improvement in every aspect of life at the home since HOH stepped in - in food, education and clothing. Three girls recently completed a stenography course and are looking for jobs. Four girls have graduated as nurses' aids. Another girl has completed her tailoring course. Thanks to the HOH sponsored tailoring program all uniforms are stitched at CHH by the older girls!

Udyan Ghar - Delhi
SUMAN, barely 6 years old is the most recent recruit. She was found by Kiran Modi (founder of Udyan Ghar) eating garbage from a garbage can, while her limbless mother was begging on the streets. Kiran immediately brought her to the home. Suman is one happy child now, known as "Pussy Cat" among other residents because of her cherubic smile.

Pinky, another new recruit is also barely 6 years old. Both her parents are dying of AIDS. She has adjusted very well and making good progress in her studies. With the help being provided through your generous donations many, many lives are being given a hope for a future!

Making a difference….. one child at a time

The Hope for Vision for 12

There are a total of 12 kids who are excellent candidates for surgery, aged 7-14. The majority of these children suffer from complicated cataracts or retinal detachments. Dr. Sabharwal met the EYE SURGEON and went over each child's medical history. If HOH can successfully fund this program through the generosity of its' supporters, it could become one of our most gratifying experiences.

Thanks to our generous supporters 5 out of these 12 surgeries are already funded.
