Home of Hope, Inc. began its 13th year with acknowledgement and applause for the dream that has kept the team moving forward - a focus on touching the hearts and improving the lives of children - and we know that none of this could have been done without your support of HOH!

On October 31, Dr. Nilima Sabharwal was invited to Wheaton, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago, to present at the Seventh International Conference of the India Development Coalition of America.

The Conference of the IDCA 2-day Event was to find innovative strategies to alleviate alleviate poverty and mitigate climate change in India, and there eight presentations, dealing with topics like school systems, water management, healthcare, and more. There were more than 150 attendees from India and across the United States.

The session started with an inaugural address from the advisor to the Prime Minister of India. Very soon after, Dr. Sabharwal presented pictures about the Udayan Ghar Mental Health Program, Manovikas Charitable Society, Indian Pingalwara Trust and the Village Library Movement, and received recognition for being the most electrifying and passionate speaker! At the end of the day, TV Asia covered Dr. Sabharwal's accomplishments in India.

"There is no question that the people I met at this International Conference were very inspiring. Each of us has the ability to make a tremendous difference, one step at a time."

The next day, Dr. Sabharwal flew back to the Bay Area in time to accept the 2009 Social Innovator Award from the Indians for Collective Action.

ICA has been working for over 40 years to transform India through direct action, and created organizations such as Asha for Education and Foundation for Excellence. Now, ICA wants to engage a new generation of youth, and provide training to leaders of tomorrow.

"It was a true honor to be recognized by ICA, for all we have done, and for our dreams to continue and do more".

In Dehli, on November 6 and 7, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Udayan Care organized a 2-Day National Workshop for Positive Mental Health and Well Being for Children in Institutional Care.

Udayan Care is recognized as a flagship program for children in India, and will remain focused on supporting Rule 46, the approved Government Program to help 200,000 children who are in orphanages.

October was the 10th International School Library Month.

In Maharashtra, the PaanPoee Vachanalaya Program, working in conjunction with the Vanasthali Rural Development and HOH are delivering 4,500 books to children in remote rural areas. Teachers pick up the books at the Centers, then carry them on foot or on their bikes in canvas bags to make sure each child has the joy of holding a new book in their hands, and learning to read.

Bookmarks are being printed in support of the International Month, and will be distributed to the children.
