Background:
Chayadevi Anathashram came into existence as an offshoot of Sri Shaneswaraswamy Temple in Mysore. With the an interest view in of expanding the activities of the ashram for to better serviceprovide full-time care for orphans, a trust was formed in June 1995. Their Its mission is to provide food, shelter and quality education to the poor, downtrodden, physically and handicapped and mentally retarded orphans without any distinction of caste or creed. The ashram is currently situated in a leased building, and the ashram currently houses 30-35 children between the ages of 3 and 16 years.

Help Provided by Home of Hope
After our initial funding of US $994 to cover ration expenses for the period of July 2002 to December 2002, Chayadevi Ashram has come a long way. HOH recently funded then to the amount of US $ 2650. This is geared towards providing ration expenses (Rice, pulses, oil and medical supplements) for the period of Jan 2003 to Dec 2003. Recently the HOH board has also approved funding towards the improvement of their infrastructure and operating expenses. We are in the process of transfering US $ 1575 to Chayadevi Ashram. This money will also be used for buying school uniforms for the children and also pay for their regular medical checkups. It is clear that with HOH's guidance Chayadevi is slowly moving away from the vicious circle of food, clothing and shelter, and looking towards education. HOH's involvement with Chayadevi has grown tremendously since funding of the orphanage began in 2002. From initially sponsoring the 35 child orphanage's annual rations of $1000, HOH has since provided Chayadevi with a computer lab and education program, new bedding and appliances, and sponsored a move of the children from a Kannada-medium to English-medium school, culminating in a total contribution of $25,000 since 2003.

Future Goals
Starting January 2003, Home of Hope plans to provide the next round of funding for the year 2003. Once their basic needs are met, we will investigate other needs like housing that they might have. Over the past two years, HOH has been the main sponsor of Chayadevi's purchase of a land tract upon which the ashram hopes to build a larger complex capable of accommodating 100 children. This project is expected to break ground in the middle of 2006 and be completed in approximately one year, with HOH playing a key role in equipping the new orphanage after it is built. Additional goals include further enhancing the computer education curriculum to include web-based learning.

Isaac Husain serves as the project coordinator for the Chayadevi Orphanage. Isaac is drawn to Home of Hope because of its mission to give every child a fair shake at success, regardless of race or religion. In December, 2005, he visited Chayadevi to chart HOH’s impact on the orphanage. He dedicates his efforts at Home of Hope to the memory of his father, Dr. Abid M. Husain, who instilled in him the virtues of tolerance and giving back.
